Co-production with the festival November Music (Den Bosch, The Netherland and The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, Huddersfield, England)

In contemporary music we realize today (again) the necessity towards a multi-disciplinary approach. Instead of being specialized in one musical practice, some ensembles and individual artists comprise a wider artistic spectrum in their work. This is indeed the case of Jennifer Walshe and ensemble]h[iatus.

The distinctive feature of the ensemble]h[iatus is that its members are at the same time experienced interpreters and improvisers. The projects presented by the ensemble reflect this entirely: instead of simply performing repertory pieces from the 20th and 21st century, the ensemble takes us on a musical journey, performing a combination of both written pieces and improvisation. The meeting of interpretation and improvisation of contemporary music and their integration within one whole, non- interrupted performance is the kernel of the ensemble]h[iatus' work.

However, beyond this polarity the nine single musicians of the ensemble include a wider creative range: their individual artistic paths are mostly transversal, non-linear and multi-faceted, and have been including different practices like composition, sound art, installations, performance art, collaborations with theatre, dance, multimedia etc.

The work of Irish composer-performer Jennifer Walshe could be described similarly and in this respect a collaboration with the ensemble]h[iatus suggests naturally itself.
Beside Jennifer's work as composer, she is active as a vocal performer and improviser, specialising in extended techniques. Many of her compositions were commissioned for her voice in conjunction with other instruments. The work of Irish composer-performer Jennifer Walshe could be described similarly and in this respect a collaboration with the ensemble]h[iatus suggests naturally itself.

In her recent project Grúpat she assumed nine alter egos and - under different pseudonyms - created compositions, installations, graphic scores, films, photography, sculptures and fashion.
